Lovers Key 2008

LOVERS KEY 2008
(See the picture show below)

There is so much to tell about our extended weekend in Fort Meyers Beach at LOVERS KEY RESORT, and a lot to be said about returning to the same place year after year. It is like going home where all the memories are happy ones, and everyone is like one big happy family. Rich Moore and his staff greeted us like old friends.

Open the door to your suite; step out on the balcony and check out the tranquil bay with the dolphins gliding slowly by, while a variety of wading birds are sifting the water for tasty snacks. Feel all your problems, tensions and pressures quickly fading away. LOVERS KEY RESORT has already began its magic.

The fun and laughter followed us wherever we went, and whatever we were doing. Larry Greenly helped us at breakfast with his superior waffle making abilities, (some of us were waffle challenged). Larry also helped brighten our pool party by donating his clogs for a spirited game of “shoe in the middle”. I think his volunteering days are over.

Diner on Friday night was at Anthony’s Restaurant located directly on the beach. We were treated to a beautiful romantic sunset before dinner was served. The restaurant supplied us with bottles of wine to complement our dinner, which helped make up for a slight wait before our food arrived. After a while who cared…

Lunches most times were at Flippers, near the pool. I didn’t know how much fun lunch could be. They serve a bucket of rum (check the photos) mud slides,

After breakfast on Saturday, some went to shopping at the Flamingo Flea Market looking for the great bargains one cannot live without, while others went for a hike into Lovers Key Park on a quest for the perfect shells. Everyone it seems was very successful.  We all ended up back at the pool like we always do. Reading, sunning, swimming, or in the hot tub, the pool area was a great meeting place for all. We even had a chance to see three beautiful brides take their vows on the side of the Flippers restaurant during the weekend. One of the ceremonies had a bagpiper in kilts.

Art and Sue hosted a wine and snack party in their room after dinner on Saturday night. It gave us all a chance to unwind and share stories and get to know our members on a more personal level. We really didn’t need unwinding, but it was great to be all together.

Jack and dawn Studevent flew in from New Orleans to be with us once again. They were Miata members who took part in all events they were able to before they moved away two years ago. This is the second year they came down to be with us, and it was great to see them again.

Gary and Janie drove here in their new R.V. coach, towing their Miata, and joined us at the resort for all the fun. Dolly Wolf, who moved to Melbourne a few years ago, drove down to visit and catch up with old friends.

All my words only tell part of the story, check out the photos for the real fun. Next time we go to Lovers Key, if you don’t go, at least you’ll know what you’ll be missing.

Hope to see you there next time around.
