Old Key Lime House 2009
Old Key Lime House
Club members left from Boomers parking lot on a rainy Saturday afternoon to caravan to Lantana where we dined at the historic THE OLD KEY LIME HOUSE. Built in 1889 the building boasts of being Florida’s oldest waterfront restaurant, and has the largest free standing chickee hut in the state of Florida. The building started out originally as an Indian trading post and post office. There is a small trading post within the building where you can still buy assorted trinkets. There is live entertainment, a great waterfront view with a pier and boat and Jet Ski docks. I think this is the first time I can ever remember going to any restaurant with a large group of people when everyone loved everything they were served. From the appetizers thru the desserts, there was not one complaint, not one criticism from anyone in our group. The food and service were excellent from start to finish. The prices were slightly on the high side, but that fact was quickly overlooked as soon as we started eating. As a total package, THE OLD KEY LIME HOUSE is simply amazing. Members will find this restaurant on my list of events to enjoy for a drive for lunch on a Sunday afternoon in the fall. With the weather clearing, we headed for the Lake Worth Playhouse to see their production of the Broadway show Grease. The seats were great. We were split in three groups from front row center to the forth and sixth rows. In looking around the small theater, there would have not been any seat that would not be a good seat. It was announced at the start of the play, that this version followed closely the original Broadway production, and what I think they were really saying was, this is not the movie version. I guess I was expecting the movie version, so I was a little disappointed when not all my favorite songs were included, and I can understand the limitations of the set designs. What I thought could have been improved was the casting of characters, not all seemed to fit the roll. The cast were all extremely upbeat, enthusiastic, and sang and danced their heart out. I think looking back at the evening’s event, this one will be one of the more memorable ones.
